(Tuesday, February 3, 2015) Alan Lightman, Professor of the Practice of the Humanities at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he was the first faculty member to receive an appointment in both the humanities and sciences will present the lecture. Through works such as The Accidental Universe: The World You Thought You Knew (2014), Lightman explores everything from multiple universes to the perception of time to the question of God’s existence, illustrating along the way the value of being a humanist and physicist simultaneously.           Citrus Collection to Benefit United Food Bank

(Saturday, January 31, 2015) The City of Mesa Neighborhood Outreach Office, in partnership with the United Food Bank, has scheduled Saturdays for residents to drop off boxes of citrus as part of a gleaning program. If you have extra citrus you’d like to get rid of, here is an opportunity to donate it. All you need to do is pick your ripe citrus separating lemons, grapefruit and oranges; place them in a box or sturdy container and drop them off. (Wednesday, February 4, 2015) NASA's Asteroid Initiative seeks to combine Near Earth Object collision mitigation, commercial exploitation of asteroids and the development of Earth-to-Mars technology in one initiative. Are we biting off more than we can chew? Our discussion will be led by Garrick Williams, Young Professionals chair for the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) as well as the External Chair for the Orbital Early Career Network (OECN) at Orbital Sciences in Chandler.           2nd Singapore Sustainability Symposium: Sustainable City Design

(Wednesday-Thursday, April 15-17, 2015) With the continued commitment of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to sustainability and urban solutions that are transdisciplinary, transboundary, and fully integrated, NTU's Sustainable Earth Office (SEO) and Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS), in collaboration with a number of Singapore’s Agencies, are organizing the second S3 in Singapore. The symposium will have a Singaporean flavor, with a special interest in the challenges faced by cities and urbanization. The title of this year's symposium is Sustainable City Design, and S3 will again serve as early input to the World Cities Summit (held next summer 2015 in New York). This year's symposium will begin with a public lecture and discussion panel including the presentation by a Minister of key objectives from Singapore's new sustainability plan. More information.

The WRRC, in partnership with the Gila River Indian Community, is hosting the conference to increase awareness of water sustainability efforts on tribal lands, and to provide new perspectives in the discussion of water management options to meet growing supply gaps in Arizona. Arboriculture Research and Education Academy (AREA): 2015 Request for Student Presentations

AREA believes that the future of Arboriculture and Urban Forestry research lies in the development of today's students. As such, AREA devotes an hour for student talks during AREA Educational Sessions at the ISA Annual International Conference. Five students are selected, in a competitive process, to present their research findings. This provides the students an opportunity to develop presentation skills as well as network with academics, professional researchers and many practitioners that attend the talks. In addition, these students receive a travel grant that helps defer the cost of attending the annual conference. Students interested in applying for the AREA Student Travel Grant and speaking at the 2015 ISA Annual International Conference and Trade Show during the AREA sessions (Wednesday, August 12, 2015), should submit an abstract under the category "AREA students" at https://isa-arbor.currinda.com/event/1343. After completing this step, please fill out an additional grant application (along with a letter of support) and email to AREA@isa-arbor.com by Friday, February 13, 2015.


          Neely Foundation Food and Agriculture Sustainability Research Grant

The Neely Foundation Food and Agriculture Sustainability Research Grants Program offers funding for ASU sustainability student-proposed research and applied projects designed to support and advance food and agricultural system sustainability. Project awards typically range from $1,000 to $4,000 and can cover any aspect of food and agriculture sustainability. Eligibility: Must be enrolled full-time in the School of Sustainability and at the junior, senior, or graduate level. Undergraduate sustainability students must be engaged in a Capstone-type project or Honors thesis work. Several documents are required for this application. Arizona Association of Environmental Professionals Scholarship and Grant Application

The Arizona Association of Environmental Professionals (AZAEP) seeks outstanding students for the Future Environmental Professionals Scholarship and also students comprising an outstanding group, organization, or class project for the Future Environmental Professionals Grant. The scholarship and grant will each carry an award of $1,500.00, plus a one-year student membership in AZAEP. The objective of the scholarship and grant is to assist undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled full-time in a degree program at an accredited Arizona college or university in their preparation for a career as an environmental professional. Students enrolled in Community colleges pursuing a two-year terminal degree or a transfer program may apply. Students must be enrolled full-time as stipulated by their program requirements. Denali National Park and Preserve Applications Open for 2015 Research Fellowships

The National Park Service and the Murie Science and Learning Center (MSLC) are seeking applicants for two research fellowships that are available to individuals wishing to conduct research in Denali National Park and Preserve and other arctic and subarctic Alaska national parks. The Discover Denali Research Fellowship is for research in or near Denali, and the Alaska Geographic Fellowship is for research taking place in Denali or other arctic or subarctic Alaska national parks. The deadline for both fellowship applications is February 16, 2015 and a decision is expected to be made by March 1, or soon thereafter. The fieldwork of fellowship recipients must be arranged before September 1, 2015. An information guide about the fellowships, which includes specifics on how to apply and other information helpful to the application process, may be downloaded from www.nps.gov/rlc/murie/research-fellowships.htm.           Climate Change Youth Leadership Opportunities in the National Park Service

The George Melendez Wright Young Leaders in Climate Change (YLCC) program manages paid internships in which undergraduate or beginning graduate students work for approximately 12 weeks on projects in research, interpretation, park operations, policy development, or other fields.
