(Friday, May 8, 2015) The inaugural keynote address will be given by Professor Daniel Etsy, Director of the Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy at Yale Law School.           World Wide Views on Climate and Energy

(Saturday, June 6, 2015) World Wide Views on Climate and Energy is a global citizen consultation, providing unique information about how far citizens around the world are willing to go, in order to deal with climate change and to bring forward an energy transition. Arizona State University (ASU) will be the location for one of four citizen forums being conducted in the United States. About 100 citizens, selected to reflect the demographic diversity in their countries or regions will attend daylong meetings, starting at dawn in the Pacific, and continuing until dusk in the Americas. Citizens will express their views on an identical set of questions, designed to reflect policy controversies at the global negotiations and political discussions about climate and energy in general. The results will be made available online and presented locally and globally to inform policymakers and negotiations leading up to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties (COP 21) taking place in Paris in December of 2015. Project partners for Arizona are the ASU Consortium for Science, Policy and Outcomes and the ASU Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiative. More information and how to participate.


          Democracy Conference 2015: By the People

(Thursday-Saturday, December 3-5, 2015) Arizona State University will be hosting a conference on participatory democracy, civic engagement and citizenship education. The event will be designed to share research findings, engage in provocative and meaningful discussions, learn from accomplishments and failures, and be inspired by innovative approaches, strategies, policies, tools and practices. The conference will bring together academics, students, practitioners, researchers, appointed and elected public officials, teachers, administrators, members of community organizations, and all those interested in participatory democracy, public engagement and citizenship education. The conference will combine academic presentations with practical workshops, We are interested in attracting theoretical and empirical contributions that are related to the three conference themes.           2nd Singapore Sustainability Symposium: Sustainable City Design

(Wednesday-Thursday, April 15-17, 2015) With the continued commitment of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to sustainability and urban solutions that are transdisciplinary, transboundary, and fully integrated, NTU's Sustainable Earth Office (SEO) and Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS), in collaboration with a number of Singapore’s Agencies, are organizing the second S3 in Singapore. The symposium will have a Singaporean flavor, with a special interest in the challenges faced by cities and urbanization. The title of this year's symposium is Sustainable City Design, and S3 will again serve as early input to the World Cities Summit (held next summer 2015 in New York). This year's symposium will begin with a public lecture and discussion panel including the presentation by a Minister of key objectives from Singapore's new sustainability plan. More information.

          Advanced Smartscape Irrigation Course

(Thursdays, May 7, 14, and 21, 2015) The Advanced Smartscape Irrigation course builds upon the basic Smartscape course by offering in-depth technical training for landscape professionals on the design, installation, maintenance, and management of drip and sprinkler irrigation systems in the Sonoran Desert. The course stresses irrigation efficiency and wise water use in turf and other landscapes. It is encouraged that registrants have a basic working knowledge of drip and/or sprinkler irrigation systems prior to taking this class. More information on the course.           8th Annual Conference of the Academy of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

(Thursday-Friday, August 20-21, 2015) Ryerson, Tsinghua and Oxford universities are pleased to announce that the 8th Annual Conference for the Academy of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (#AIE2015) will be held for the first time in Toronto, Canada. March 19, 2015, Overnight "pit stop" in Varanasi; March 20, 2015, Arrived in Mandalay (Myanmar) where is spent a few more days awaiting good weather for the flight to Chongqing, China. March 29, 2015, Flight to Chongqing, where it is awaiting favorable weather for the flight to Nanjing. SI2 has been stuck in Chongqing since March 31st because of poor weather conditions. High altitude clouds, limiting the aircraft's energy collection, and crosswinds, that conflict with the airplane's itinerary, have led the Mission Control Center to postpone departure to Sunday April 11th at the earliest. Also newly released is the Solar Impulse smart phone app: http://wisfans.com/solarimpulse/ They will stop in Phoenix perhaps in May, again dependent on the weather.

          The 2015 Montgomery & Associates Summer Writing Internship at the WRRC

The University of Arizona Water Resources Research Center (WRRC) is offering a summer internship to a student interested in gaining experience writing about environmental and water issues. The internship is supported by Montgomery & Associates, an Arizona-based consulting firm specializing in hydrology and water resource issues. The selected intern will contribute to research and writing for an issue of Arroyo, the annual WRRC publication that focuses on a critical Arizona water issue. Arroyo is recognized as source of objective, accurate and understandable information and reaches a wide audience that includes policy makers and water professionals as well as the interested public. The topic selected for the 2016 Arroyo is potable water.
