          World Wide Views on Climate and Energy

(Saturday, June 6, 2015) World Wide Views on Climate and Energy is a global citizen consultation, providing unique information about how far citizens around the world are willing to go, in order to deal with climate change and to bring forward an energy transition. Arizona State University (ASU) will be the location for one of four citizen forums being conducted in the United States. About 100 citizens, selected to reflect the demographic diversity in their countries or regions will attend daylong meetings, starting at dawn in the Pacific, and continuing until dusk in the Americas. Citizens will express their views on an identical set of questions, designed to reflect policy controversies at the global negotiations and political discussions about climate and energy in general. The results will be made available online and presented locally and globally to inform policymakers and negotiations leading up to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties (COP 21) taking place in Paris in December of 2015. Project partners for Arizona are the ASU Consortium for Science, Policy and Outcomes and the ASU Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiative. More information and how to participate.


          Democracy Conference 2015: By the People

(Thursday-Saturday, December 3-5, 2015) Arizona State University will be hosting a conference on participatory democracy, civic engagement and citizenship education. The event will be designed to share research findings, engage in provocative and meaningful discussions, learn from accomplishments and failures, and be inspired by innovative approaches, strategies, policies, tools and practices. The conference will bring together academics, students, practitioners, researchers, appointed and elected public officials, teachers, administrators, members of community organizations, and all those interested in participatory democracy, public engagement and citizenship education. The conference will combine academic presentations with practical workshops, We are interested in attracting theoretical and empirical contributions that are related to the three conference themes.           Healing through Poetry: Nepal Earthquake Relief

(Friday, May 22, 2015) The Nepalese Students Association at ASU is organizing a poetry reading in an effort to raise awareness and fund for the victims of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that recently struck Nepal. The first half of the event is open mike where the public is invited to participate, and the second half will feature Samyak Shertok, a native of Nepal and a recent graduate of ASU's MFA program. Samyak works as a Visiting Poet at the Mayo Clinic where he writes poems for the palliative patients as lyric medicine. From 7:00-8:00 p.m. at Changing Hands Bookstore, 6428 S McClintock Dr., Tempe, AZ 85283.

          Community Clean Water Workshops

(Friday-Saturday, May 22-23, 2015) The Oak Creek Watershed Council would like to invite the local watershed community to participate in an exciting opportunity to learn low cost ways to improve your landscape and help keep Oak Creek clean! In November 2014, the Council was awarded a grant from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality to work with residents and business owners in the Settlers Rest neighborhood (South of 89A in the Carroll Canyon area) to do 10 pilot projects that incorporate techniques to slow down water on private property. They will be hosting a FREE two (2) day Community Clean Water Workshops at Unity of Sedona, Fellowship Hall in Sedona, AZ. Please RSVP for the workshops due to limited space. Third Annual Conference on Governance of Emerging Technologies: Law, Policy and Ethics

(Tuesday-Thursday, May 26-28, 2015) The third annual conference on the Governance of Emerging Technologies: Law, Policy and Ethics, will be held at the Scottsdale Resort & Conference Center, in Scottsdale, Arizona. The conference will consist of plenary and session presentations with discussions on regulatory, governance, legal, policy, social and ethical aspects of emerging technologies, including (but not limited to) nanotechnology, synthetic biology, biotechnology, genomics, personalized medicine, stem cell and regenerative medicine, human enhancement technologies, telecommunications, information technologies, surveillance technologies, geoengineering, neuroscience and robotics. The conference is premised on the belief that there is much to be learned and shared from and across the governance experience and proposals for these various emerging technologies.           From Science Fiction to Science Fact

(Wednesday, May 27, 2015) Learn how the science fiction writing of Richard Peck inspired his son Mason Peck to become one of the nation's leading aerospace engineers - and what that might mean for the liberal arts in education and the future of the tech economy. A discussion about Isaac Asimov, settling Mars, and how pop culture and the arts can and should be used to spark learning in young students and the development of new technologies. Featuring author Richard Peck and former NASA Chief Technologist Mason Peck, moderated by author and activist Brad Snyder, with a special send by Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton. 2015 Tastes of the World Chef Culinary Conference Pre-conference Sustainability Sessions

WRRC Annual Conference 2015: Indigenous Perspectives on Sustainable Water Practices

          8th Annual Conference of the Academy of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

(Thursday-Friday, August 20-21, 2015) Ryerson, Tsinghua and Oxford universities are pleased to announce that the 8th Annual Conference for the Academy of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (#AIE2015) will be held for the first time in Toronto, Canada. The AIE Conference was first held in 2008 at Tsinghua University in Beijing, consistently ranked as one of China's top institutions for higher learning, and has previously been hosted at the prestigious Oxford University in London, England. On April 24, 2013, a building with five garment factories in it collapsed in Rana Plaza in Bangladesh, killing more than 1,100 workers. Most major clothing retailers in developed nations source clothing they sell from factories in Bangladesh, and working conditions that led to the collapse convinced many to become signatories to the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh — a legally binding agreement that commits corporate signatories to the financing and implementation of a program of safety inspections, transparency and reporting and remediation.
